Our first Mystery Readers.....Red Cedar Pre-School
We have been learning about non-fiction text features along with writing non-fiction. The children were very excited to learn more about some familiar , and not so familiar, American symbols. The children also did a teamwork building lesson with large puzzles of America. They really had to work together and be aware of their space. They did a great job working as teams!

Here are a few fun things we did on 100's Day!
While all of our activities were FUN, they were also a great way to practice counting objects with one to one correspondence, counting by 1's , 5's, and 10's, creative writing, number writing, and so much more!

Today was a very special day! Today we invited Miss Talamonti's class to come and share their EXPERT FAIR. Each child in her second grade class had done a research project on an animal that was interesting to them. First they shared their slides, then the children paired up to read each others non-fiction piece. Our love bugs had really enjoyed learning about penguins and they did a fantastic job learning about non-fiction text features while reading about and writing their books. The kindergarteners did a great job reading to their second grade partner. While I wanted to hold on to their penguin books a little longer, I just counldn't as they were so excited to take them home to share with their families!
We made Valentin'es bags to hold our special cards. After we passed out all of our Valentine's, our fourth grade buddies came for a visit to help us read our cards. Thank you fourth grade buddies!
We learned how to clean our teeth the right way to make sure we protect our teeth and do not get cavities!
Whiteboard Wednesday: Practicing writing our numbers then free draw! It's so easy to fix a number on a dry erase board!
"How to" story writing: We can give directions on how to make a pizza!
KIDS CAN!! Kids Can make a difference, share, help others. That is what was decided by our kindergarten class while we were reading about how the first Thanksgiving and how the Native Americans helped the Pilgrims. We realized how important it is to help others and that even while we are small, we can make a great difference. We decided to help others by holding a food drive for the month of December. The kindergartners made posters to advertise the event. The whole school participated in our food drive. We recorded the amount of food collected from each grade level team on a bar graph in the gym. As a school, we collected 801 food items. We decided to donate our collected items to the Haven House of East Lansing. The women who came to speak to the kids, thank them, and collect the food items was amazed! She had to bring back help as her car was not big enough to collect it all in one trip! Way to go kindergarten class and Red Cedar School!
We had such a great time at the Fun Run! Thank you Red Cedar PTA for all your hard work with this fundraiser. Thank you to our classroom parents that came to watch us run AND for your donations as well!
