We have been learning about non-fiction text. Our first theme was science related on living things, specifically penguins. Our second topic of study was social studies related on American symbols. The children are so eager to learn more!

We have been learning to write "how to" stories. Here is a "how To" story by author/illustrator Jan brett on how to draw a hedgehog.
We have been learning about teen numbers. This song helps to reinforce the concept of place value and number sense. A teen number is a group of ten and some ones. The kids love this song and it gives a great visual as well!
Below is the book Pumpkin, Pumpkin. It was our shared reading this week (10-24-13). The children even read it to our fourth grade buddies. We will be visiting the pre-school next week to read to them as well! We are learning that good readers use picture cues, look at the words, get their mouths started with the first sound, and read fluently.

9-30-13 This week we are beginning to read, talk, write, and explore with and about our five senses! Here is a song we learned about the five senses! Can you create a video about your five senses? E-mail me your link and I will add it to our website! Be creative...use puppets, drawings, different objects!
9-17-13 Today we learned about U.S. Constitution day. We talked about our countries rules and how they came about. We related this back to our classroom and the book we read last week, School Rules. The children wrote about one of our classroom rules and why it is important for our class.
9-4-13 Today we read the book Pete The Cat - Rocking in My School Shoes. After reading the book, we went on a school tour to find all of the special places in OUR school. The children loved this story and will be creating their own little book version tomorrow!
